WOL Classic is the first version of the Wake On Lan Tool. This version used to run on Windows 95 and newer up to Windows 2003 Server. The latest version runs on Windows 2000 – 2003 (including XP) only.
As the development environent that was used to develop WOL Classic has been discontinued by Microsoft I had to do a complete rewrite resulting in WOL2. I would like to advise you to use WOL2 as I will stop to support WOL Classic by the end of 2009. WOL2 brings you all the functionality of WOL Classic plus, it runs on GNU/Linux and Mac OS X.
WOL Classic is a tool that lets you remotely switch on every Wake On Lan capable computer / device in a network. WOL Classic lets you wake a single host or a group of hosts. Additionally WOL2 allows you to reboot and power off Windows machines. You can set up timers to wake computers. You may also set up the tool to control other utilities like VNC so that you can use them directly from within WOL Clasic.
WOL Classic requires Windows 2000, XP or 2003 as Host System. It can wake any other WOL capable machines.
There are two versions of WOL Classic: Version 1.3.7 which uses the ‚fancy‘ GUI and version 1.4.0 which uses the normal Windows GUI. They both share the same functionality.
